Deep in our hearts, we long for honesty community and authentic relationships—until we’re wronged and deeply hurt by others. Forgiveness is a fairly universal ethic (people generally agree it’s a good thing); yet the lingering question for all of us is, Where do you draw the line? Sure it’s good to forgive—but as long as the offense is not too great, gone on too long, or repeated too many times. Let’s be reasonable, right? Jesus has something more radical in mind: forgiveness without limits. He give shows us what this forgiveness is (and isn’t), and shows us where we can get the emotional and spiritual resources to forgive like this. Like him.
