Rev. Glenn Hoburg, Senior Pastor
Glenn and Meg Hoburg have talked, prayed and envisioned planting a church in the city for some time. Glenn graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston (1984-88) and longed to return to the city. Meanwhile God was equipping and developing this call in various ways through opportunities to serve together on two church staffs (Christ Presbyterian, Nashville, TN and Kirk of the Hills, St. Louis, MO) where they received invaluable mentoring and experience in ministry. Then there was the call to Cambridge/Boston after graduating from Covenant Seminary to begin the ministry of Reformed University Ministry (RUF) at Harvard University, where Glenn served as Campus Minister for six years, as well as PCA Chaplain. Part of what drew them to this work was the urban setting and opportunity to be affiliated with Christ the King, PCA, a church plant in Cambridge, where Glenn served as Assistant Pastor. God has blessed them with two daughters, Madeline (9) and Isabelle (7), who both enjoy parks, dancing and wrestling their father. Glenn and Meg are both grateful and enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve God and raise their family in Washington, D.C. The Hoburgs live on Capitol Hill.

Duke Kwon, Associate Pastor
Having formed a fondness for Washington, D.C. during a summer internship years ago, Duke is thrilled to return to the District as a part of a community that exists both in and for the city. Duke grew up in the deserts of Southern California then journeyed to the Northeast for his undergraduate studies at Brown University (A.B., political science). After working at a management consulting firm for a time, he began his formal training for ministry upon joining the staff of Grace Covenant Campus Church (KAPC) and entering Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology (New Testament) degrees. It was during the earlier years of study and service that the yearning to be a part of urban church-planting began to grow. Before coming to Grace DC, Duke served on the staffs of Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design and Trinity Presbyterian Church, a center-city church that is devoted to the ethnic and campus communities of metro Providence, RI. These unique ministries provided, among many other rich challenges, invaluable experience in reaching and integrating racially, politically, generationally, and intellectually diverse communities. Duke currently lives in Adams Morgan/Mt. Pleasant.

Erika Johnson, Communications and Events Coordinator
Erika grew up as the daughter of a Navy chaplain and a Registered Nurse. While living in exotic places like Guam and Japan, she excelled at art, but relied on her one older, extroverted brother to make most of her friends for her. She studied the classics, theology, and education at New Saint Andrews College, and has held a variety of jobs, and lived a variety of places since. Erika came to the District in 2005 to be near her parents, who were here for a brief time. She liked DC so much she decided to stay, then she met her now-husband, Justin. Justin and Erika live in Shaw, and see no reason to ever leave. Erika still jumps at any chance to travel, but is generally a happy home-body and loves to have people over. She is passionate about a lot of thing, but especially about strong relationships, the pursuit of truth, graphic design, shoes, food, and good old books.

Kara Callaghan, Assistant to the Senior Pastor
Washington DC has been home to Kara Callaghan since she attended George Washington University where she studied Art History and dabbled in music. The pace of urban life, the diverse community and the cultural richness of the city resonated with her and she’s made DC her home ever since. Over the past several years, Kara has developed a growing passion to engage other cultures for the sake of the gospel and to see local churches mobilized for global mission. In addition to serving Grace DC, Kara works for Radstock Ministries, a mission organization that seeks to encourage and equip local churches to fulfill their privilege and responsibility in mission. Kara lives in NW DC near National Cathedral. She travels several times a year facilitating and participating on short-term mission teams. Recent travels have included Ukraine, Russia, and Kosovo.

Mel Chang, Sunday Ops/Membership Coordinator
Though born and raised in the suburbs of Houston, Mel soon realized that she loved city life for the culture, diversity and especially the food. Leaving the heat of Texas for the cold of Chicago, Mel studied journalism at Northwestern University. After graduation, Mel moved to New York and worked several years in broadcast news as well as on Wall Street. It was in New York that she got involved with Redeemer Presbyterian Church. By serving as a community group leader and a church officer, Mel developed a desire to love and serve the city. She also embraced Redeemer’s vision for planting smaller churches in other urban areas. Mel and her husband, Josh, are excited about the opportunity for ministry in Washington D.C.

Katie Sheerin, Community Group and Prayer Coordinator
Katie was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Earning her B.A. in Spanish and Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she is a Georgia peach turned blue-blooded Tar Heel, and now DC urbanite. Katie moved to the District in 2005, attracted to the city by its diverse, urban, international flavor. Returning from teaching at a Christian academy in Argentina, she was drawn to the thriving community of believers at Grace DC by its genuine manifestation of the gospel of grace and by its heart for renewing all of life through this hope. Katie loves serving her growing church as it seeks to grow in love for God and neighbor. She and her husband Mark love their vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood, with all of its unique places to enjoy good friends and good cups of coffee.
