Deacons
Stan Austin
Stan Austin was born in DC and lived in the Virginia suburbs until returning to the city in December 2002. His mother was a strong Christian and led him to Christ when he was seven years old. At Grace DC, he’s served on the greeting and finance teams. Because he had
served as a deacon at McLean Presbyterian Church, Glenn Hoburg asked him to help with requests for financial help from visitors and walkins during worship services. Stan feels called to serve at Grace because he has the gift of service and experience in serving as a deacon and working with the deaconate as Church Administrator at McLean Presbyterian for five years. |

Justin Johnson
After a few years in the Midwest, Justin Johnson traipsed through a few European countries and a few southern states before ending up in DC. He grew up in a Christian family, but it wasn’t until
high school that he really took ownership of his personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Here at Grace he’s been helping lead a community group and been involved in a few other ministries. Serving people’s immediate needs and helping the church extend God’s grace to the surrounding community are passions of his and get him excited about the possibility of serving as a deacon. |

Joe Kaufmann
Joe Kaufmann is from Iowa by way of Georgia and has lived in Arlington since 2000. He was born into a large family and community of Christians, and since then God’s Spirit gradually has increased his faith in and obedience to Jesus. He has been serving at Grace DC for the past few years in various capacities at different times, setting up sound equipment and co-leading a community group. He feels called to serve as deacon because of the opportunities God has given him in the past to work in mercy ministry, the encouragement of others that have worked with him in this capacity, and the desire he has to see the good news of the Kingdom passed on through both word and deed. He is excited about exploring with the rest of the congregation how best to serve one another and this city, extending God’s grace to others and exchanging our own values and priorities for His. |

Joe Moore
Joe Moore grew up in Joplin MO and moved to
Washington, DC in 2004. Having grown up in a Christian home, it was in graduate school that Joe began a more intentional pursuit of the Lord and his faith, chiefly through better understanding and accepting His grace. While at Grace DC, Joe has served on the Fellowship team, has lead the Set-up team, and has participated in several of the outreaches of the church such as AGAP, and Habitat for Humanity projects. “I feel called to serve on the diaconate ultimately to glorify the Lord. Alone, I am ill-equipped to be in this position. It is a role that is bigger than me, but with the Lord’s help, I hope to engage the ministerial needs of the church and city through the skills, talents, and abilities that I have to offer.” |

Deaconesses
Ashley Poole
Ashley Poole is excited to be part of the diaconate process at Grace DC because she wants to serve alongside men and women who want to extend God’s love and mercy to our community and throughout Washington, DC. Ashley grew up in North Carolina, where her family and friends were integral to her understanding of faith in God and in mercy ministry. “My faith is constantly being shaped as God meets me in my weakness, and I experience a grace filled life in Christ.” Over the last several years at Grace DC Ashley has worked with children at Parkview Elementary school as a part of STEP and served on the greeting and finance teams. |

Arney Walker
Arney Walker is from Howard County, Maryland. She was raised in a Christian home and came to
accept Christ as her savior through Pioneer Girls in middle school. She’s been serving the church
through her community group mainly.
“I organize our service project at Pathways, a transitional home for 10 women in DC. I also have been able to serve the church through food, with the catering company that I work for. I feel as though I have a heart for service and want to be able to help the city more, and serving on the diaconate will help me be able to do that.” |

Genevieve Wood
Genevieve Wood is originally from Texas. She went to school in Charleston, South Carolina, moved to New York City for three years, and has now lived in DC for 14 years. Genevieve grew up in a Christian home, the seed of faith was planted as a young child, but her personal relationship with Christ really didn’t mature until her late 20s. She has long had a heart for the city and believes God put that desire there. At Grace DC, Genevieve has been part of the Greeting team and has co-lead a community group. “Grace has been such a blessing in my life as it has encouraged me and equipped me to do more of what I feel God has called me to do - to live and serve and proclaim the Good News in the city.” |

Brandi Yee
Brandi Yee grew up in Moraga, California and moved to Washington, DC after graduating from college in 1997. She first came to know Jesus through a high school youth group mission trip, but thinks she has grown more spiritually over the past 2+ years at Grace DC than since she became a Christian almost 15 years ago. “I feel like my whole perspective on life, people and the world has changed as I have become more aware of the character of God and my need for his transforming love, mercy and amazing grace. As I think about the opportunity to serve on the diaconate, I am very excited about the possibility of serving with a committed team of believers who want to transform and love the city and the Grace DC community through the gospel.” Since joining Grace, Brandi has served as the Care Team Coordinator, volunteered with STEP, and has been a member of a community group and Gospel Transformation small group. |
