I’ve grown up in churches, so the moment during worship services where we all recite a prayer of confession together is pretty familiar. Even comfortable. Even when a prayer of confession disconcertingly captures the state of my heart, I forget too easily that, from a perspective outside the church, there’s something deeply *weird* about confessing our sins.

Last week, Mike Park reminded us that confessing our sins shouldn’t be uncomfortable, but the comfort we feel when confessing shouldn’t come from the fact that we are so familiar with the routine of confession. The comfort we should know should come from the fact that we are secure in God’s grace and forgiveness.

From an anonymous Grace Downtown member on prayers of confession during our worship services.
