The Lord’s Supper
June 24th, 2007 by Duke Kwon The themes of food, meals, and hunger are found throughout the Bible, often used as metaphors to communicate spiritual reality. This shouldn’t be surprising to us—we know from experience that eating is sometimes a near-spiritual experience: the intimacy that’s shared with a friend over a meal; the way we turn to “comfort food” to feed more than just our bodies. So it’s also not surprising that God would choose to use a meal—the Lord’s Supper—to communicate what he’s done for us in Jesus. As he corrects the Corinthians’ misuse of the Supper, Paul offers us the rich meaning of this meal and the right way to partake in it.
