Using Your Rights

May 20th, 2007 by Glenn Hoburg

Our society sees self-control as either extremely negative—repressing authentic desires; or, as something for personal benefit only—e.g. “Be self-controlled in eating so you can live longer, or attract the person of your dreams”. The Apostle Paul introduces two different motives: 1) Self- control for the benefit of others—to extend to them the grace of God. 2) Self-control so we might remain unhindered in our race toward God. How could these possibly look in our lives?
