Some of this is because we place an inflated value upon appearances and the opinions of others–but that’s not the entire reason. We also derive a great sense of energy and dignity being taken into someone’s confidence (a boss, parent, leader, etc.) In Genesis 18 God takes Abraham into His confidence and the effects are significant.
